Reflection on Unit One: Information and Communication Technology in Education

  I now view ICT in education very differently as a result of this class. I used to believe that ICT just included the use of computers, projectors, and possibly the internet in the classroom. I now see that the main focus is on how technology may be used to make learning engaging, innovative, and purposeful.   We started off by talking about the distinctions between traditional and ICT-based schools. This made me think of my own school days, when we largely listened to the instructor and she was the primary source of knowledge. The classroom looks completely different with ICT. Students have the ability to conduct research, produce original content, and even work together. Learning becomes more engaging and student-focused as a result. It helped me envision the type of classroom I want to have in the future—one that is more about exploration than lectures.     Learning Outside of the Classroom: An Introspective Look I could have indicated a classroom, a desk, or perhaps a pile of textbooks if you had asked me years ago where learning takes place. I saw education as consisting of pupils taking notes, a teacher using a whiteboard, and orderly rows of chairs. However, as I've gotten older and more experienced, I've come to understand that genuine learning frequently occurs in life's muck. during times when there was no official lesson plan. I didn't start drawing links between these life experiences and deeper learning theories until I started studying educational psychology. Comparing and Analyzing Problem-Based Learning and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

  Overview I've wondered many times why I am sometimes more engaged and sometimes disengaged as a student struggling with the difficulties of education and personal development. Two ideas that have strongly improved my knowledge of learning and motivation are Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and Problem-Based Learning (PBL). Both have contributed significantly towards my perception of learning, motivation, and self-growth, although one is a psychological theory and the other a teaching method. I contrast the two paradigms and consider the impact they have had upon my line of study in this reflection.
